2.
Q. I am writing a personal history of my family and will publish less than 100 copies for my family and friends. Do I need a copyright license for this purpose? Do I have to pay a license fee?
A. Yes, you need a copyright license. Yes, there will be a license fee for the use, but it will be less than a professionally published book.
3.
Q. I am writing a book for publication, but I don't have a publisher yet. May I license the photos for personal use? Do I have to pay you more later when the book has a contract for publication?
A. No, we do not provide personal use license agreements. You may confirm availability of a photo for your book, but you must obtain a license for a published book. There will be associated fees, depending on the distribution, etc. of the book.
4.
Q. I want to use your photos on my personal website. Do I need a copyright license to do this?
A. Yes, because you are distributing the photo around the world, a copyright license and appropriate credit for the photo are needed. This is not personal use, even though your website is not a commercial website.
Commercial Use FAQs:
1.
Q. I'm really a non-profit organization and don't expect to make money on my use of your photos. Do I still need to pay for a copyright license?
A. Any time a photo is publicly displayed, a license agreement is required. This website is a commercial business and charges fees for use of the Boeing photographs. The fees are based on the use described. If you feel you have special circumstances that require consideration, please identify them in the description field of your order. Your request will be reviewed and a response will be provided.
2.
Q. My use of Boeing photographs is related to an activity that is sponsored by Boeing. Do I still have to pay for use of Boeing photographs?
A. If you have a contact at Boeing who is sponsoring your activity, please submit your order for photo use, identify your contact person at Boeing and ask that person to contact the website via the Contact Us e-mail or Imagelicensing@boeing.com about your order. Please give that person your order number as well as your name and company name if applicable.
3.
Q. Why are your licensing fees not listed up front in your website?
A. Our fees are based on the actual use of the photographs. There are too many combinations of uses to be able to identify them in a list. The license fees for your order will be identified before you actually submit your order for review. You may choose to revise the terms of your use and recalculate the license fee, or cancel all or part of your order prior to submittal.
4.
Q. The fee I was quoted is too high, is there any way I can negotiate the fee?
A. License fees are based on the intended use. If you think you have made an error, or have not adequately described your use, please feel free to identify your circumstances in the Description of Use text field.
