1. Account Creation & Order Process

 

NOTICE: Boeing employees are not charged fees when using images for business purposes. Fees will be waived prior to image release.

 

1. Q. How do I create an account? 

  1. Click on the Login/Register button in the upper right corner of the BI.com home page.
  2. Find the "Register to Open New Account" heading on the right half of the page.
  3. Click on the "Register a New Account" button.
  4. Complete required fields in the Registration Form.
  5. Click "Submit" and your account will be created.
  6. You will receive an email confirmation for your account.

 

2. Q. What is a Lightbox? How is it used?

A. Lightbox is a folder that allows you to organize digital photos. (Note: this is an optional tool that is not required as part of the ordering process.) Photos can be placed in a Lightbox by subject, for later convenience, or used to compile unrelated photos for a specific project layout. Lightboxes also allow you to show clients options for a project in one folder.

 

3. Q. What is the quality of the images?

A. Boeing Images provides the highest quality image available. Most are suitable for publication, printing, or wall art.

 

4.Q. Where can I find a list of Boeing products?

A. Boeing has three online references for our current and historical products:

5. Q. I can’t find the product or image I’m looking for. What do I do?

 A. Click the Special Orders tab to create a "special order." Then describe image(s) or video which is not currently available on Boeing Images. Provide as much information as possible about the image, product, or program you are looking for.

 

6. Q. I want to use the same image for different purposes. Is there a way to do that?

A. YES. This can be done in several steps:

  1. Add the image to your cart.
  2. Go to your cart and navigate to the image to duplicate.
  3. Click on the “Duplicate This Item For Different Usage Request” link. This link will create a new form with the same image directly below the original image.
  4. Note: You may click the duplicate link as many times as you need, and each time, a new blank form will appear.
  5. Finally, complete the first form, along with the additional forms for separate uses.

 

7. Q. I want to use multiple images for the same purpose (literally all attributes are the same). Do I have to fill out every single usage individually?

A. YES. The usage information must be filled out for every image. However, there is a shortcut that will allow you to complete the usage information in a more efficient manner:

  1. Go to your cart.
  2. Fill out the usage for the first image according to your needs.
  3. Ensure that all entries are correct.
  4. Scroll down to the bottom of the usage information for the image.
  5. Click on "Copy The Above Usage To All Items in The Cart." This will copy all of the relevant information to the rest of the images in your cart so that you do not need to enter the same information multiple times.
  6. Complete the transaction.

 

8. Q. I copied all of the usage information to each image in my cart using the instructions above. I just noticed that there are some corrections that need to be made. Can I make these corrections without having to go back through each image?

A. YES.

  1. Make your changes on one image,
  2. Click the "Copy The Above Usage To All Items in The Cart."
  3. Changes will display for each image after the system updates your data accordingly.

 

9. Q. What information am I supposed to enter in the Notes/Caption field in the cart?

 A. Enter any relevant notes or captions that will be placed with the image in your final product. For example, if you are including your photo in a magazine, newspaper, or book, please include the verbiage that accompanies the image layout. Or, if you are producing a calendar or poster (under the “Products” category), you might place a description along with the image in the final product.

 

10. Q. I submitted my order. What happens now?

A. Once we receive your order:

  1. We notify the appropriate Program Focal(s) for review and approval. This review could take 48 hours or more.
  2. If a payment is necessary, you will receive a "Cost Estimate" via email.
  3. If you accept the fees, or your order is approved without fees, we will send an "authorized for download" notice via email which includes link to complete your order
  4. You accept the license terms, then
  5. Download the image files from the link provided.

 

11.Q. What if I need a higher quality image that what was provided? How do I get a higher quality image?

A. Boeing Images provides the highest quality image available. If you require a higher-quality image, you will need to engage with Boeing Creative Services or Historical Services, to determine if an image can be enhanced. These additional services may incur additional fees.

 

2. Fees & Payment 

 

1. Q. Why are licensing fees not listed on the site?

A. Fees are based on the actual use of the image(s). You must enter the use terms to see what the license fee will be. You may choose to revise the terms of your use and recalculate the license fee, or cancel all or part of your order prior to submission. NOTICE: Boeing employees are not charged when using images for business purposes. Fees will be waived prior to image release.

 

2. How do I find out how much an image will cost?

  1. Add an image in your cart.
  2. A price estimate will be calculated based on the usage criteria and will appear in the lower right corner of the form.
  3. Note: Having an image in your cart does not mean you have placed an order.
  4. You many cancel all or part of your order prior to submission.
  5. Add an image in your cart.

3. Q. Is there any way I can have the license fee reduced?

A. If you have a special circumstance or business relationship that warrants a license fee reduction, enter that information in the “Notes” text field of your order. Fees may be reduced or eliminated on a case-by-case review and approval.

 

4. Q. What methods of payment do you accept?

A. We can ONLY accept payment by Check/Money Order OR Wire Transfer/Electronic Funds. Payment details will be provided with your Cost Estimate and/or Order Invoice.

 

5. Q. My use of Boeing images is related to an activity that is sponsored by Boeing. Do I still have to pay for the use of Boeing images?

A. If you have Boeing contact sponsoring your activity, identify this person in your image order. You may also ask your Boeing contact to reach out to our team to verify the business relationship.

 

 

3. Prints for Purchase

 

1. Q. Can I purchase image prints for use in my house or business?

A. YES, individuals and/or businesses may purchase framed prints or stretched canvas from the Boeing Photo Store. Orders in the Boeing Photo Store require a credit/debit card.

 

2. Q. I’m a Boeing employee, can I purchase framed prints for personal use?

A. YES, Boeing employees may purchase framed prints or stretched canvas for personal use at the Boeing Photo Store . Orders in the Boeing Photo Store require a personal credit/debit card.

 

3. Q. Is there a Boeing employee discount?

A. No. Due to revised pricing structure there is no longer a Boeing employee discount offered.

 

 

4. Editorial & Media Use

 

1. Q. Can Boeing Images content be used for editorial or media purposes?

 A. Credentialed media requests are handled via the Boeing Brand Center.

1. Q. I’m a Boeing employee. Can I use images or videos for internal projects or presentations?

A. YES. Boeing employees may use image(s) or video for internal company purposes. Personal use is prohibited. NOTICE: Boeing employees are not charged when using images for business purposes. Fees will be waived prior to image release.

 

2. Q. I’m a Boeing employee. Can I use images or videos for Boeing projects released externally or external publications for Boeing? (Examples: conference presentations, papers, journal articles, customer presentations, advertising, etc.).

A. YES. Boeing employees may use images or videos for external company purposes, with appropriate Request for Release of Information (RROI) reviews. Personal use is prohibited. NOTICE: Boeing employees are not charged when using images for business purposes. Fees will be waived prior to image release.

 

3. Q. I'm a Boeing employee. Can we use images or videos for commercial product purposes?

A. MAYBE. A Consumer Product License agreement (CPL) or Procurement License agreement (PLA) is required for all uses of Boeing images in commercial products. Contact ImageLicensing@boeing.com for more information.

 

4. Q. I'm a Boeing employee. Can we use images for on-site office spaces?

A. YES. Boeing employees, groups, organizations, offices, and sites may use images for decorative purposes in offices, production areas, and buildings. Images may be subject to Communications approval. There are THREE options:

  1. Order images using the Boeing Photo Store for obtaining ready-to-hang framed images, stretched canvasses, or wall murals at Boeing sites.
    1. Any images available on Boeing Images, can be transferred to the Boeing Photo Store for printing purposes.
  2. Use FedEx Office when larger installations such as, pop-up banners, backdrops or custom wraps are needed.
    1. Select and request images
    2. Order prints from FedEx Office using COBS (internal Boeing access only).
  3. It is permissible to provide licensed images to a local printer.

 

5. Q. I'm a Boeing employee. Can I use images from Boeing Images for my personal office (at home) or on-site?

A. NO. However, you may order images using the Boeing Photo Store for prints, ready-to-hang framed images, or stretched canvasses for your personal workspace(s) or home.

 

6. Q. Why can't Boeing employees just download images and use them?

A. Boeing images are Boeing intellectual property. As such, they should be protected like other Boeing intellectual property. Licensing by all parties allows Boeing to:

  1. Track and understand how our images are being used both internally and externally,
  2. Minimize intellectual property escapes,
  3. Provide opportunities for resource planning,
  4. Assure Boeing images are being used in accordance with Boeing Brand and Communication strategies.

 

 

6. Educational Use & Non-Profit Use

 

1. Q. I’m a student. Can I use these images for a personal research project for educational purposes?

A. MAYBE. All Boeing copyrighted images on the Boeing.com website are available for personal research use as long as you credit the images to The Boeing Company using the "© Boeing" copyright legend. We do not allow the use of the Boeing trademark logo, but we do allow individuals to include "The Boeing Company" as a text element. The preferred font is Helvetica. If you find an image on Boeing Images please contact us, keep in mind reviews, approvals, and fees may be required.

 

2. Q. I’m a school teacher. Can I use Boeing images for classroom display, lesson plan supplements, or special projects?

A. MAYBE. All Boeing copyrighted images on the Boeing.com website are available for classroom use as long as you credit the images to The Boeing Company using the "© Boeing" copyright legend. We do not allow the use of the Boeing trademark logo, but we do allow individuals to include "The Boeing Company" as a text element. The preferred font is Helvetica. If you find an image on Boeing Images please contact us, keep in mind reviews, approvals, and fees may be required.

 

3. I want to use an image for a journal article or academic paper. Can I use Boeing images in the publication?

A. YES, with appropriate fees and license required. To request a fee waiver, provide your special circumstances in the "description" field of your order. Your request will be reviewed and a response will be provided.

 

4. Q. I'm a non-profit organization and don't expect to make money on my use of your images. Do I still need to pay for a copyright license?

A. YES. To request a fee waiver, provide your special circumstances in the "description" field of your order. Your request will be reviewed and a response will be provided.

 

 

7. Personal Use

 

1. Q. Can I use an image for a wallpaper on my computer?

 A. NO. Images from Boeing Images should not be used for personal wallpapers. However, wallpapers are available from Boeing.com for free download. Search "wallpapers" or "virtual backgrounds" to find them. 

 

2. Q. I want to use your images on my personal website. Do I need a copyright license to do this?

A. YES. Since you are distributing the image(s) around the world, a copyright license and appropriate credit for the photo are needed. This is not personal use, even though your website may not be a commercial website.

 

3. Q. I am writing a personal history of my family and will publish less than 100 copies for my family and friends. Do I need a copyright license for this purpose? Do I have to pay a license fee?

A. YES. You need a copyright license and there will be fee for image use, however the fees will be less than those for a professionally published book.

 

4. Q. I am writing a book for publication, but I don't have a publisher yet. May I license images for personal use? Do I have to pay you more later when the book has a contract for publication?

 A. NO. We do not provide personal use license agreements. You may confirm availability of an image for your book, but you must obtain a license for use in a published book. Fees will be assessed based stand book rates including; distribution, number of copies, placement, size, etc.

 

 

8. Social Media Use

 

1. Q. Can I use an image from Boeing Images on my Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or other social media page?

A. NO. However, you may go to the Boeing Twitter page to find images that are approved for personal social media use.

 

2. Q. I’m a blog owner and my site is non-commercial. Can I use images for free?

A. NO. All the Boeing images on your blog or website must be licensed with permission granted, regardless of the nature of your site.

 

 

9. Commercial Use

 

1. Q. I'm a publisher and I need to seek permission to use or license Boeing images, text, or video, who should I contact?

A. If you find the image on the site, then submit your request via the cart and provide the details of your publication. You may also contact ImageLicensing@boeing.com with a description of the content being requested and the use need. Your request will be reviewed and a response will be provided. Keep in mind, content may require approvals from several Program Focal(s) and fees may be required.

 

2. Q. I’m not sure if my use is commercial or not, how can I clarify this?

A. Contact ImageLicensing@boeing.com with a description of your planned use. Your request will be reviewed and a response will be provided.

 

3. Q. Can I use images from Boeing Images for any other commercial purpose?

A. NO. Boeing images can only be used for commercial purposes (examples: calendars, games, mugs, t-shirts, toys, etc.) with a Consumer Product License agreement (CPL) or Procurement License agreement (PLA). All other commercial uses are prohibited. Contact ImageLicensing@boeing.com for more information.
